Artist Statement

My work is about the everyday stories in the lives of children. I am amazed by their ability of children to imagine lives that are wildly different from their daily reality, their whimsical thoughts seem limitless. I create stories based on my own experiences as female with a learning disability, because the creativity in neurodivergence is not always told in stories. I stick to this so that way I know the experience is authentic and true.

When creating a story, I sketch a rough draft of a cover to see where my mind is at. I do this to get an initial idea of the vibe the story will give. After that I start sketching the characters and backgrounds to figure out what style fits best with the story. I will use pencil to sketch the pages and once I am content with the product I ink the pencil lines. After inking, I fill in with watercolor. Throughout the process of creating characters and filling in backgrounds, I create new cover options.
